Ujamaa Christian Poetry
The End of the Beginning
When this terrestrial sphere
is at last a long-bearded man,
with winding creases
around his veiled and squinting eyes,
and a sagging double chin;
when land and sky limp and stumble,
unsteady,
upheld only by the crutch of time,
and the sun and moon
despair to see their youth
wilting in the mirror of the sea;
then with majesty you will quietly
fold up these old garments,
not to store, but to restore.
and with slight of hand,
and with a flash of power,
you will renew and reveal them,
changed, glorified,
with incorruptible splendor...
and they will arise and see
their beloved wards
awakened to this new day too,
waiting there beside.
