THE LANGUAGE OF RUTH
Be kind-
for I think you saw
your future
in my eyes...
I hope you
speak kind to me one day
in all elegance and forbearing-
that your charm
will compliment
my naivete
and you'll excuse
my want
and childishness
and exchange it for
your reassuring arms around me...
As I toil in the fields
notice me right away-
excuse my low estate
forgive my sweated brow
I hope you see my heart skipping
and invite me to dance
in spaces of brilliant green...
I hope you kiss me
while I lay at your feet-
please don't pat my head
and make my heart cautious
don't make my heart
run and hide
Be a Boaz
delicate in pursuance
Don't be startled
if you discover me
quiet in the night at your feet
House me...
No doubt we're noble-
but our hearts will come to leap
Be kind and honor my kin
Bring love and child
and strength in your character
pack away chatter in your ear...
Come and stand
with your queen
on the generation of blessed
